Inflammation

Inflammation, whether acute or chronic, has multiple root causes including lifestyle factors, environmental exposures, infections, and underlying metabolic conditions.  Acute inflammation is the immune system's protective response to harmful stimuli, such as infections or injury.  Chronic inflammation can arise from an imbalance of intestinal microbes that can produce harmful metabolites, leading to systemic inflammation.  Processed foods, trans fats, excess sugars, alcohol, drugs, sedentary lifestyle, artificial additives, stress and physical over use (extreme exercising) induced injury can trigger immune responses.  Oxidative stress generated by metabolic disorders create free radicals which damage tissues.

 

Specific healthy microbial strains strengthen and repair leaky gut intestinal lining which prevents harmful substances from entering the bloodstream.  They produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), like butyrate, which have anti-inflammatory signaling effects, regulate the immune system and T-cell responses and reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines leading to inflammatory diseases.
